The winning design will be also be used on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
The painting is titled “The Departure”. It is a 44in. x 44in. oil and acrylic on handmade paper wrapped on a custom birch panel. This beautiful piece of art is for sale and can be found at Nancy‘s gallery at the Cotton Mills Studio.
When asked why the train best reflected the Village to Nancy, she said, “Trains have always been nostalgic symbols that I’ve used throughout my work and over the years. They are like time capsules and signs of history and stability just like Biltmore Village. The overlap of this symbol and the fact that Vanderbilt shifted his focus in the late 1800’s to the railroad industry making railroad transportation more efficient, really tied this piece to Historic Biltmore Village. We can still see the train coming through the village today which is a testament to Asheville’s historic past and future.”
As a part of her award, Nancy received: A $250 cash award, 1 nights stay at the DoubleTree Biltmore Hilton Hotel, Gift Certificates from The Cantina, Village Wayside, Corner Kitchen along with gifts from Lilly Pulitzer, Jos A. Bank, Talbots Chico’s and MTN. Merch. In addition to this, the winning artist’s work will be on display at the Grand Bohemian.
